Help available to celebrate the Coronation

Last Modified February 22, 2023

Community groups and voluntary organisations in Hertsmere are being encouraged to apply for funding to help celebrate the Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort this year.

National celebrations for the Coronation are to take place the weekend of 6 to 8 May 2023 and we want as many local residents as possible to be involved.  We have small grants of up to £500 to support events taking place on or around that weekend from this week. Applications for our grants will be considered on a rolling basis until Friday 7 April. Find out more here.

Among the events which could be supported is a street party, a Coronation Big Lunch, or a get together with your community group.  You could also choose to take part in a volunteering activity in the community as part of The Big Help Out national initiative.

In addition, organisers can elect to invite the Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr John Graham, or Deputy Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Victor Eni to their event. Anybody interested in a visit should indicate so on their grant application form and we will be in touch.

Councillor Meenal Sachdev, Portfolio Holder for Community, Leisure, Culture and Health, said:  “We hope that by providing this grant we’ll be helping local people come together and be a part of this historic occasion and the UK-wide celebration across the bank holiday weekend.

"We hope to see a range of activities in all areas of the borough including street parties, lunches, and volunteering activities.

“We want to help people celebrate with their loved ones for a weekend of fun and festivities, so if you are planning an event, please contact us to see if your event is eligible for funding. We look forward to hearing what is happening in Hertsmere.”

Information and ideas on how to get involved can be found at on the Coronation website, along with a form to submit your event to be included in a map of national and international events.
