Older people's groups in Hertsmere have received awards totalling £2,500 from us to mark International Day for Older Persons today (Tuesday 1 October).
The aim of the celebration is to recognise the achievements and contributions that older people make to society. Our grants offered voluntary groups and charitable or not-for-profit organisations support for a range of free activities and events.
Cllr Caroline Clapper, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, said: “Older people are often the unsung heroes in our communities so I'm delighted that on this International Day for Older Persons 11 groups will each receive some of the £2,500 awarded.
“This helps celebrate the invaluable contribution they make to the community and means they can put on successful events which will hopefully attract a lot of interest from the over 65 age group and provide them with a lot of enjoyment.”
Those groups for the over 65s receiving funding this year include: Elstree & Borehamwood Dementia Club; InspireAll; Visually Impaired Club; Monday Club and Sixty Plus.
We will advertise when the next round of community grants and grants for older people's events are open for applications, along with details of how to apply.
