Hertsmere Community Lottery launched to help deserving causes

A new way for local good causes to raise money is coming this autumn with the launch of Hertsmere Community Lottery. 

Hertsmere Community Lottery helps community groups, sports clubs, heritage groups, voluntary organisations and other good causes to raise funds by selling lottery tickets to their supporters. 

It is completely free to register and for every £1 ticket bought, organisations will receive 50p directly back to them, with a further 10p going to a Hertsmere general good causes fund.  This compares to just 28p in the pound for the National Lottery, 27.5p from the Postcode Lottery and 20% from the Health Lottery going into good causes.

Supported by Hertsmere Borough Council, Hertsmere Community Lottery enables local people to support local organisations and groups, whilst being in with the chance of winning a £25,000 cash prize through the weekly prize draw. Other cash prizes include £2,000, £250, £25 or three free tickets.

Councillor Meenal Sachdev, Portfolio Holder for Community, Leisure, Culture and Health, said: “We are encouraging local good causes to sign up to our new community lottery. It’s a simple way for organisations and groups that work to support our residents to raise vital funds.

“Registration is free and for every £1 ticket sold, 50p will go directly back to those organisations that work to support our communities in Hertsmere, with a further 10p going to a general pot for Hertsmere good causes which will be distributed by the council.  

“Each organisation that signs up will receive a dedicated webpage on our Hertsmere Community Lottery site and be provided with a range of online and printable marketing materials to help encourage your supporters to play – giving just got more fun!”

Interested groups are encouraged to come along to an online launch event at 11am on Wednesday 13 October to find out more about the community lottery and how to sign up.
