Just days left to register to vote
Last Modified April 14, 2021
With just days to go until the deadline for registering to vote closes, we're urging local residents not to lose their voice in May.
On Thursday 6 May residents in Hertsmere will go to the polls to have their say on who represents them in Borehamwood Kenilworth ward; Bushey North ward; South Mimms, Shenley and Aldenham Parish Councils; Hertfordshire County Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner elections.
The deadline for registering to vote is midnight on Monday 19 April. If you have not yet registered to vote, have recently moved house or turned 18, you will need to register in order to be able to vote.
Sam Langford, Electoral Services Manager for Hertsmere, said: "You can’t have your say in these important elections unless you are registered to vote. It’s quick and easy – it takes just five minutes online at www.gov.uk/registertovote.
“The elections are an opportunity to make your voice heard and have a say on who represents you on issues that directly affect day-to-day life here in Hertsmere. If you’re not registered by 19 April, you won’t be able to vote in the 6 May elections."
Voters have a range of options for casting their ballot – in person, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place, known as a proxy vote. For those who choose to vote in person, polling stations will be safe places to vote on 6 May.
The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 20 April, and for a proxy vote the deadline is 5pm on 27 April.
For information on safety measures at our polling stations or to apply online, go to our May 2021 elections page.
